Veolia site proposal
Biffa incinerator
(early planning process)
Photos of the site from Pontefract Lane, Cross Green
There are recent proposed images of the two potential incinerators.
Photo taken from the top of the indoor car park, just next to the Armouries Museum. The height of the camera is 15m and the ground level is c. 29m high. The height of St. Hildas church is c. 29m high and the building is approximately 20m. The tarmac mortar plant is c. 24m and the height of the building is known to be 28m high.

Church = 29m + 20m = 49m
Tarmac = 24m + 28m = 52m
Incinerator 2= 25m + 40m = 65m

The proposed Cross Green incinerator would be approximately 5.7km/3.5 miles away and the tarmac mortar plant is approximately 1.7km/1 mile away.

Therefore I conclude that the incinerator will seen from any high building in the area of Cross Green or Clarence Docks.

Photo taken from the top of the pedestrian bridge crossing the M621 in Hunslet. The land level at the Beeston side of the bridge is 33m and the bridge + camera adds 5m.

The tarmac mortar plant is c. 24m above sea level and the height of the building is known to be 28m high.

Bridge = 33m + 5m = 38m
Tarmac = 24m + 28m = 52m
Incinerator 2 = 25m + 40m = 65m

The proposed Cross Green incinerator would be approximately 2.3km/1.4 miles away and the tarmac mortar plant is approximately 5.7km/3.5 miles away. Therefore I conclude that despite the curvature of the earth the extra 13m and chimney would make the proposed incinerator be visible. It would also be visible from certain houses on Beeston Hill.

The incinerator will be 175m long and 69m wide.
It will also have a 90m tall chimney, even taller than the first incinerator bid.

The above is from their non-technical summary but Biffa have provided more detailed projections and I have uploaded them below.

Incinerator Veolia

This is the site proposed by Covanta. They incinerator will be built on the former site of Knostrop
waste water treatment works. According to the Ordnance Survey the site is 24-25m high.

I will add photos of the site once I have located suitable locations
